Plymouth Waterfront

Steeped in British maritime history, Plymouth is one of the country’s forgotten corners and is located on the Tamar Estuary on the borders of Devon and Cornwall.

In recent years, the city has been undergoing wide spread regeneration along its waterfront, including the redevelopment of the Grade I listed Royal William Yard, and a range of other developments along its coastline.

The waterfront area of Plymouth also includes Millbay, or Millbay Docks, which lies between West Hoe and Stonehouse.  This is a vibrant part of the Waterfront that has been extensively redeveloped and offers the opportunity to live in contemporary waterside apartments.

The Hoe, a central area on Plymouth’s waterfront, is famed for being the place where Sir Francis Drake played his game of bowls in 1588 while waiting for the tide to change before sailing out with the English fleet to defeat the Spanish Armada.

Marina Information

The city offers a range of excellent marina berthing facilities on the following marinas;

Clovelly Bay – run by Yacht Havens, the marina is located to the eastern boundary of Plymouth at Mount Batten – near the South West Coastal Footpath – and is well positioned for those looking to take part in a variety of water sports or a spot of fine dining in one of the area’s local restaurants.

Sutton Harbour Marina – run by the Sutton Harbour Group, the marina is only a short walk from the historic Barbican and The Hoe, Plymouth city centre and the recently opened
Drake Circus shopping centre.  Nearby there are plenty of excellent restaurants, including Rhodes at the Dome, Tanners and Plymouth Gin.

Mayflower Marina – is located to the west of the city and run by Sail Port.  The marina is set at the head of the Tamar Estuary opposite Royal William Yard and the Mount Edgcumbe Estate in South East Cornwall.

Queen Anne’s Battery – home to the Royal Western Yacht Club and a wide range of yacht servicing facilities, the marina is within walking distance of the city centre and the Hoe Promenade.
