Meet Emily Taylor: Helping Plymouth Landlords and Tenants Feel Right at Home

Emily

Not everyone who joins a new city hits the ground running, but Emily Taylor has done just that!

After four years working in lettings in Winchester, Emily made the move to Plymouth in 2025 and joined the Lang Town & Country lettings team.

She brought with her a wealth of experience, a proactive approach, and a genuine passion for getting things right for the people she works with.

As Lettings Administrator, Emily is the engine room of the day-to-day lettings operation – keeping compliance on track, supporting landlords and tenants through every stage of the process, and making sure the transition from one tenancy to the next is as smooth as it can possibly be.

It’s a role that demands organisation, empathy, and attention to detail in equal measure, and it’s one Emily has taken to with real enthusiasm.

She’s also a landlord herself, which gives her a level of insight and empathy that clients genuinely value. Emily knows first-hand what it feels like to have a rental property and the peace of mind that comes from having the right team behind you.

When she’s not keeping the lettings operation running, you’ll find Emily at home tucked under a blanket with a good book. But in the office, she’s a valued and integral part of a team that has been recognised as one of the top 2% of letting agents in the entire UK.

Here, Emily talks more about her role, what she loves about being part of the Lang Town & Country team, and how she and her colleagues are supporting landlords through the changes brought about by the Renters’ Rights Act.

Emily, Tell us a little about yourself and what drew you to a career in lettings?

In 2025, I relocated to Plymouth after working in Winchester in a letting agency for four years as an Administrator.

I’ve always enjoyed roles where I can build relationships and be proactive, and lettings really offers that. I thrive in a role where no two days are the same – you’re dealing with different clients, helping people move home, and also supporting landlords.

What’s kept me in the industry is the satisfaction of getting things right for people – whether that’s matching the right tenant to a property, resolving an issue quickly, or helping a landlord feel confident their property is being well managed.

It’s a role where you can genuinely make a difference to someone’s experience, and that’s something I find really rewarding.

What does a typical week look like for you at Lang Town & Country, Emily, and what keeps you motivated in the role?

I am here to support both landlords and tenants throughout the entire renting process and regularly update all involved with any changes or issues that arise. This could be referencing queries from prospective tenants or any property maintenance issues.

I am responsible for keeping on top of compliance for all our managed properties. I ensure all properties have the required compliance certificates – GSC, EICR and EPC – before and during the tenancy.

I am also involved in assisting with setting up all new landlords on our system, and ensuring that the transition between landlord and tenants is as smooth as possible for all parties.

I also monitor the referencing of all new tenants from start to move-in day. This involves chasing up on any outstanding documents required for the referencing to be completed and sending an agreement out to all parties when referencing is completed.

My main motivation is knowing that I am able to help all landlords and tenants and make their day easier – from property maintenance troubleshooting to general queries.

Building strong relationships with landlords and tenants is at the core of what you do – how do you approach that, and why does it matter so much?

As a landlord myself, I can empathise with the stress of having a rental property and all the issues that could arise. It’s important for us to have a strong relationship with the landlord so they can feel confident they’re in safe hands with Lang Town & Country, and not have to worry.

We are always here to help both landlords and tenants, so it is important that they feel they can give us a call if they have any issues.

Award

Can you think of a moment where you or the team went the extra mile for a client – and what did that mean to them?

A landlord had a change of circumstances which required them to sell their property, which in turn required notice to be served on the tenants.

When the tenants originally moved into the property, we remembered that they mentioned they had really struggled to find somewhere to live as they had a dog. With this in mind, before we served official notice, we gave the tenants a call to give them a heads-up and also offered a solution – a new property we had coming available soon that would be suitable for them.

This meant that they did not have to stress and worry about finding somewhere else to live. The tenants were really grateful for our help and were relieved to have a potential solution during a stressful time.

In your view, what makes the culture at Lang Town & Country different from other agencies?

Between the team, we have decades of experience in the property sector, which means we are well equipped to stay up to date with all legislative changes and the entire process from start to finish.

A benefit of the lettings team sitting within the same office is that all team members have an understanding of what each other is working on and are able to provide advice based on their experience or suggest potential steps forward.

The Renters’ Rights Act has brought some of the most significant changes the lettings industry has seen in a generation – how are landlords responding, and what are you hearing from them?

A large proportion of long-term landlords are understandably nervous. The removal of fixed-term tenancies and changes around possession have made many feel they are losing a degree of control over their property.

For some – especially accidental or smaller landlords – that uncertainty is prompting them to reconsider whether they stay in the market at all.

What are the most common concerns landlords are coming to you with around the new legislation, and how are you helping them through it?

The main concern I am noticing is the change to the tenancy length and the notice period required from both tenants and landlords.

Some landlords are worried about how the Renters’ Rights Act will affect their ability to regain possession of their property, especially in situations involving rent arrears or problematic tenants. We’re helping by breaking down the legislation into clear guidance and advising on best practices to remain compliant while still protecting their investment.

Plymouth property market

Lang Town & Country prides itself on making the process as smooth as possible – what does that ongoing support look like for landlords navigating the changes?

We’re here to make the transition under the Renters’ Rights Act feel manageable and, ideally, stress-free for landlords.

Ongoing support starts with clear, proactive communication. We keep landlords updated as guidance evolves, translating legislative changes into straightforward, practical advice – what’s changed, what it means for your portfolio, and what actions you need to take.

We assess tenancy agreements and notice procedures, and where adjustments are needed, we handle the updates for you, minimising disruption and risk.

We also provide tenant communication support. Changes in legislation often raise questions or concerns for tenants, and we manage those conversations professionally – helping maintain positive relationships while protecting your position as a landlord.

There’s also ongoing training for all team members so we are always kept up to date with any changes.

For anyone sitting on the fence about whether to use a professional letting agent, what would you say to convince them?

Letting a property isn’t just about finding a tenant and collecting rent – especially with the recent changes, it’s a heavily regulated process with real consequences if something is missed. From compliance and safety requirements through to tenant communication and handling maintenance issues, our role at Lang Town & Country is to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

What’s next for you personally, and what are you most excited about for the Lang Town & Country lettings team going forward?

For me personally, the focus is on continuing to expand my knowledge as the lettings sector evolves – particularly around the Renters’ Rights Act and what it means in practice for both landlords and tenants.

What excites me about the future with Lang Town & Country is the opportunity to be part of a team with a strong reputation and clear potential for growth. I’m really keen to contribute to that and to support the team in maintaining the high standards we’re known for.
