November 2006, can you remember what you were doing? Take That topped the charts with Patience, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was the top grossing movie of the year, taking $423,315,812 in the US.
Germany hosted the world cup where Italy played France in the final, a game that saw the French captain Zinedine Zidane see red and receive a red card for head butting Italy’s Marco Materazzi, closer to home Liverpool won the FA after Steven Gerrard’s wonder goal earnt them extra time and a penalty shootout which they went on to win.
In October 2006 Plymouths Drake Circus opened its doors for the first time.
On Monday 27th of November there was another historic event for Plymouth,
Lang & Co officially opened their Plymstock office.
The team originally comprised of Paul Preen, James Clarke, Katie Roberts and the hugely experienced Margaret Francis. Paul reflected on the last 10 years and some of the ups and downs that have forged them into becoming one of the city’s most respected firm of estate agents by saying; “ I remember being sat in a room with the partners of then Lang & Co and looking at our expansion plan and some key office locations like it was last month, I was adamant that we had to open up our new office in Plymstock. There were numerous locations we could have chosen in the city, but Plymstock is an area I have lived in pretty much all my life and it’s an area I love. It was a time filled with mixed emotions, I was excited, a little apprehensive however more importantly, I was looking forward to the challenges ahead and we certainly had some of those at the tail end of 2007 and 2008. The global recession hit us and hit us very hard, there were firms of estate agents closing, people leaving the industry and embarking on other careers, looking back at it now this was the moment we started to shine. In an easy market anyone can sell a property, in a tough market good agents stand out and that’s exactly what we did”.
“It’s remarkable to think that when we first opened I had one daughter at primary school and one still at home, my eldest Aimee has now left school and joined the working world whilst my youngest Olivia is studying for her exams”.
In 2015 Lang & Co merged with one of Plymouth’s largest independent firm of letting agents, Town & Country and Lang Town & Country was formed. Shortly after the merger we opened Plymouth’s only dedicated Waterside office on Notte Street, “We firmly believe that Plymouth is a waterfront city that is yet to have its day, so much so we’ve invested in it as a part of our future. There are some exciting times ahead to say the least. The new town of Sherford has been given the go ahead after 18 years of planning and discussions and being based in Plymstock means we will be well placed to offer assistance to developers and new home owners alike when deciding on their future plans”. The team in Plymstock has grown over the years and has a wealth of experience behind them, “ I have a fantastic team of people behind me, my wife Natalie has worked with us now for 9 years and my college Andy provides me with the depth and strength you need for a successful office, Sue Steele has worked with me now for a number of years and brings over 20 years of experience with her, Rebecca Bartlett is Plymstock’s only dedicated property manager looking after every aspect of our clients rental properties, last but not least we have Jackie, initially employed to work weekends she has become an invaluable member of the team who is constantly praised by clients for her kind and caring manner”.

Who knows where we will be in another 10 years? Maybe Lord Alan Sugar will be Prime Minister.
