Stonehouse is one of the oldest suburbs in Plymouth, with what was formerly known as East Stonehouse comprising one third of the villages that made modern-day Plymouth.
Settlement in the area stems all the way back to Roman times, and historically Stonehouse was home to the best admirals, doctors and clergy in the region.
A lot of the area was impacted by bombing in WWII, and has remained largely underdeveloped compared to other areas of Plymouth.
Fun fact: West Stonehouse used to be a village on the Cornish side of the Tamar, within the current Mount Edgecumbe Country Park. However, the village was destroyed by France in 1350.
Today, the area is growing in popularity as it catches up with the developments of the rest of the city.
