The Government is to conduct a review on the condition of private rented homes from next month, which will also consider whether new rules should be introduced on the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
The announcement came in the last week, and will see a discussion paper published during December that will look at whether more regulation is needed to ensure adequate conditions and safety, including technical rules and issues surrounding carbon monoxide and fire alarms.
Rules are already in place that require landlords to keep their properties safe and habitable for tenants including; regular gas boiler checks, high standards for repairs, levels of ventilation/lighting and minimising damp.
