New mentoring programme nurturing next generation of property experts

mentoring

Lang Town & Country is at the forefront of an exciting new initiative which is helping estate agents across the country.

Agents Together is a foundation whose mission is to bring about a brighter future for the property industry.

This includes promoting agents’ personal and professional wellbeing, encouraging a culture of communication and collective support, and changing minds and perceptions of our profession.

A huge part of this is their Mentoring Programme, a free initiative which is open to agents who are out of work, or perhaps just need some advice from an external experienced agent.

How do the Agents Together Mentoring Programmes work?

Agents Together ensures that every mentor and mentee gets as much as possible out of their mentorship.

The team aims to match mentors and mentees based on respective skills, experience and areas of interest.

They also offer guidance and advice on how to conduct mentoring sessions, for example frequency of meetings and format.

For mentors, it is the perfect opportunity to share their experience and knowledge, contribute ideas, guidance and support, and help aspiring leaders and businesspeople.

Getting involved in the Agents Together Mentoring Programmes

When the Agents Together initiative began, Lang Town & Country’s James Clarke was quick to sign up and help nurture the next generation of property experts.

James is our Land & New Homes Director and is undoubtedly one of our most experienced agents, with more than two decades’ in the property market.

He explains: “I started this process during the Covid lockdowns when the Agents Together initiative launched. I saw it as a good way of giving back to the industry that I have worked in for more than 20 years.

“The voluntary role involves being a mentor for estate agents who require help with their careers.

“At first, I wasn’t sure if I would be mentoring an agent who was out of work, or one who just needed help and wanted support from an external experienced agent.”

Becoming a mentor in the Agents Together Mentoring Programmes

James says: “My first mentee was Kris Bridges, who when I met him had just started a job as a self-employed agent and has since started his own estate agents, Bridges Properties in Scotland.

“Next was a chap called Robert Menzies, who had just set up his own estate agents, Lune Valley Estates, after working for a company for many years.

“They have both been interviewed by industry expert Christopher Watkin about the positive experience of having a mentor. You can watch the videos on the Agents Together Youtube channel or by scrolling down.

What Agents Together mentees think of the Mentoring Programmes

In the last decade, Rob Menzies has established a reputation as a well-respected and innovative agent and has built a trusted network of industry experts.

He returned to the Lune Valley in Lancashire having held the area sales manager position for the largest agency on the Fylde Coast for six years.

Now, Rob has set up and leads Lune Valley Estates (https://lunevalleyestates.com/), a firm which prides itself on its honesty, integrity, and client care.

Rob joined the Agents Together programme and has highlighted the many benefits of working with and learning from James during the process.

He said: “I’ve gone to James with everything from staffing questions, back-office questions and even land questions, because we’d just taken on a housing development. He was very, very helpful in getting all that set up.

“There’s nothing that I couldn’t pick up the phone, or send him a message and ask him about. James knows what it’s like to set up an agency – so having him as a mentor has been invaluable.”

The benefits of the Agents Together Mentoring Programmes

Kris Bridges is the owner of Bridges Properties (https://www.bridges-properties.co.uk/) in West Lothian, Scotland.

The firm aims to give the best service available through its devotion and ever-improving, ultra-modern marketing strategies.

Kris talked to industry expert Chris Watkin about James has supported him and given him a confidence boost.

He said: “I spoke to James about what I needed help with and he gave me lots of tips using his wealth of experience.

“James is down in Plymouth and I’m up near Livingstone in Scotland, so to have a complete stranger helping me just out of kindness has been amazing.”

James adds: “If there are any agents out there who are thinking about volunteering, I’d urge them to get in touch with the Agents Together team.

“The last 12 months have been a hugely rewarding experience, and it’s been great to help Rob and Kris with their journeys. I’m thrilled to say that I’m just about to receive my third mentee.”
