Meet our amazing Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival team

Lang Town & Country is extremely proud to be the new headline sponsor for the Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival 2022.

By sponsoring this iconic event, we’re thrilled to be giving something back to the people of Plymouth.

Race day is always a wonderful experience, and we’ll be there to cheer on our dedicated runners as they cross the finish line.

Among them will (hopefully) be members of our enthusiastic property team who have signed up for this year’s Festival on Sunday, June 19.

As well as running Plymouth’s number one estate and letting agency, it turns out we’re pretty good at running in general!

This year, the Lang Town & Country team are running in support of The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund.

Both charities have helped our team members through difficult times in the recent past. So, more than anything, we wanted to show our gratitude to the people within the charities as well as raising awareness and funds.

Meet the runners who are taking on the challenge to complete the Plymouth Half, Plymouth 10k or Plymouth 5k – including Matt Minett, Rebecca Jude, Abigail Higgins, Andy Genge, Emily Jolliffe, Toby Fisher, Nicki Parker, Kayley Brooking, Phil Searle and Sarah Rabin.

Matt Minett

Why have you signed up?

To have a focal point / goal for the training in the early part of the year.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

It’s a great course, with beautiful scenery. The crowds throughout the course are always very vocal and encouraging. Being in June, it should be a nice day to run, too!

Who are you running for?

The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund.

Do you have a target time in mind?

Any time under two hours!

Rebecca Jude

Why have you signed up?

I wanted to do something for charity and haven’t done any exercise since having a baby last year. So I thought this would be a good idea to help me get a bit fitter at the same time as raising money.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

To be honest, I am not looking forward to it! I am rubbish at running and only started training in March – oops!

Who are you running for?

The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund. My Mum has had breast cancer twice in the last three years and they have been great throughout her treatments. She has radiotherapy to go but is cancer free now! My nan, Sylvia Driscoll, was one of the first prime-movers of the charity as my uncle had Leukaemia in 1982. He unfortunately died only nine weeks after being diagnosed but luckily, thanks to advances in treatment, one of my best friends, Meg, was diagnosed in January 2017 and given the all clear in May 2019.

Do you have a target time in mind?

I will just be happy to finish!

Abigail Higgins

Why have you signed up?

For something to train for. The last event I did was in 2015 when I ran the Manchester Marathon!

Why are you looking forward to the event?

Great crowds and the fact that its main sponsor this year is Lang Town & Country!

Who are you running for?

The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund.

Do you have a target time in mind?

To finish!

Andy Genge

Why have you signed up?

I’ve always loved running and really enjoy my “home” run.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

I always find races are the culmination of what you have been training for over the past few months. All those cold and wet and windy runs at 6am or 8pm are worth it when you see the crowds and finish line!

Who are you running for?

My kids. It’s a great event and magical for young kids to see their parents running.

Do you have a target time in mind?

Sub 50 minutes.

Emily Jolliffe

Why have you signed up?

I started running in lockdown 2020 and have enjoyed the fitness and general wellbeing that comes with it, so thought that entering a race would be the ultimate buzz!

Why are you looking forward to the event?

The atmosphere, for sure – it’s mind over matter on that last mile!

Who are you running for?

The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund. These charities are close to our hearts, having had colleagues and family members undergo various treatments. I wanted to be a part of a team where we wanted to give something back!

Do you have a target time in mind?

I’d be happy with just over an hour for the 10k.

Toby Fisher

Why have you signed up?

Ticking something off my bucket list and challenging myself.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

I am looking forward to the buzz of the race day, the nerves and competitive edge that it brings.

Who are you running for?

My own mental health, I think it’s important to set goals and challenges in life so you have a clear focus away from the working desk.

Nicki Parker

Why have you signed up?

To put the last few years’ training to good use and finally take part in the iconic race event.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

To enjoy running as a team on the roads I have spent hours on, and experience the amazing crowds as a runner rather than a spectator… finally!

Who are you running for?

Last year I had to drop out of the Half Marathon with two weeks to go due to injury, so the £390 very generous donations for the Samaritans of Plymouth, SE Cornwall and SW Devon branch of the Samaritans on my JustGiving page will be carried forward to this year. As a team we are also running for The Primrose Foundation and the Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund.

Do you have a target time in mind?

Within one hour, 15 minutes but hopefully quicker! Just doing it will be amazing, though!

Kayley Brooking

Why have you signed up?

I’ve needed an excuse to back into running again so, when I found out that we were going to be headline sponsor, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give me the push I needed.

Why are you looking forward to the event?

The atmosphere – it will be my first-time taking part in an event like this!

Who are you running for?

I am running for my own achievement

Do you have a target time in mind?

I would like to finish in an hour.
