Choosing the right place to buy a home and settle is an important decision, so we’ve compiled a top five list of reasons why we think Plymouth is a great place to live (and buy) …
1) Great value for money
Properties in Plymouth generally offer great value for money, especially when compared with the surrounding areas that include the South Hams, East Cornwall and Dartmoor. Typically, a three bedroom family home in Plymouth will cost around £170,000 to £180,000 which is a lot less than many other cities in the South West. Plymouth also offers great investment opportunities for those looking to buy property.
2) Plymouth is one of the best places to live, it’s official (well, sort of).
A recent article in The Guardian’s ‘Let’s Move To …’ section proclaimed Plymouth as the ‘optimum place to buy a property in Britain’ according to property portals and blogs. Many people that live here already will agree with this statement, and the claim that it is a great location for those wanting city life, beaches and a short drive into glorious countryside. The article’s author
singled out the area Stoke as worth checking out for its elegant 19th Century Villas and short distance to the city centre. … http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/jan/04/lets-move-to-stoke-plymouth-devon
3) Plymouth is the UK’s only ‘Ocean City’
Plymouth has been named as Britain’s Ocean City, a way of promoting Plymouth as one of the leading marine cities in the UK. On Plymouth City Council’s website, it proclaims that; “Plymouth is now increasingly known for excellence in education, being at the forefront of marine science and industry and for its exciting annual programme of events and cultural activities.” Plymouth has a rich marine heritage; it’s where Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls when the Spanish Armada was sighted off the British coast and also where the Mayflower made its last stop before carrying its pilgrim passengers on their voyage to the new world.
4) Plenty of new developments
Plymouth is currently undergoing lots of major redevelopments right across the city, particularly on the waterfront. The Grade I listed Royal William Yard has already undergone major improvements and extensive refurbishment is also being carried out in other coastal areas that include Millbay that is being transformed into an exciting new waterfront community complete with upmarket apartments, restaurants and shopping outlets. Other planned projects include work to transform Plymouth’s Civic Centre into a city landmark, as well as the redevelopment of Higher Home Park; where the city could soon see a new ice rink, hotel, cinema, shops and restaurants.
5) Plymouth has got it all …
Plymouth has a lot to offer as a location! For those that want the best of both worlds, Plymouth is a coastal city that is also in close proximity to everything that both Cornwall and Dartmoor have to offer. An extensive shopping centre for when a bit of retail therapy is required, Plymouth also has plenty of marine and historical sites for those interested in science, sea life and history. The city also has a theatre for those that enjoy a bit of culture, a beautiful art deco Lido (The Tinside Pool) and enjoys ferry links to both France and Spain.
